Miami terminal shut down after police-involved shooting”

Amidst the mad dash to leave Miami as Hurricane Irma takes aim at South Florida, the worldwide terminal at Miami global Airport was temporarily closed Thursday night after police shot a knife-wielding man, officials said.

Miami-Dade Police said in a tweet that the situation involved a single suspect and is under control.

The man was acting erratically WPLG reported and eventually the confrontation escalated resulting in the officer pulling his gun.

At least one shot was sacked just before 9 p.m.in Concourse J, which houses worldwide flights. He then entered a second restricted area, which allowed him entry onto the tarmac. "The gentleman fled into a room allegedly armed with a knife".

The terminal was immediately evacuated and shut down.

The man, who is believed to be in his 30s, was taken to an area hospital where his condition has stabilized.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the police-involved shooting.

A short time later, police came into the terminal where Woodford and his wife were and said everyone had to leave.

Perez said it appeared the incident was isolated.

The shooting occurred as the airport was busy accommodating travelers trying to evacuate Florida before the powerful category 5 hurricane is expected to hit at the weekend.

The shooting created commotion at a place that already has been hectic because of Hurricane Irma.
