Roberto De Niro promises to fix island affected by devastating Hurricane Irma

Roberto De Niro promises to fix island affected by devastating Hurricane Irma”

What was left of Barbuda was spared from the worst of Hurricane Jose, as the Category 4 storm skirted just north of the island on Saturday.

With more than 100 years of history in the region, we have experienced the impact of natural disasters before - as recently 2016 when Hurricane Matthew created significant damage in the Northern Caribbean.

"That is no exaggeration", Browne said. "Barbuda is literally a rubble".

Veteran Hollywood actor, Roberto De Niro, has pledged to help rebuild the tiny Caribbean island of Barbuda after it was rendered "barely habitable" by Hurricane Irma.

That was before Hurricane Jose.

"The first images coming out of these islands show the extent to which Irma destroyed the homes of our employees, residents and their communities. It was hard to send in any boats there today because things are still very risky".

CNN drone footage from Barbuda on Friday showed almost every house and building ripped open or torn apart.

CNN's Leyla Santiago toured Barbuda on Friday and described "pure destruction".

Venezuela's Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza reportedly said, "We are doing something lovely, that is to be able to help the brotherly peoples in the difficulties - this is the essence of the Bolivarian Revolution and of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America (ALBA)".

John Lovell, president of Travel Leaders Network leisure group and hotels, said if the reports of destruction on some islands that he's been hearing are true, recovery will take a long time, Skift reported.

How and when different islands recover from Irma and Jose will determine when and if cruise ships return to them.

It is the Barbudan spirit, everyone on that island sticks together.I'm not surprised they're still back there working hard to get everyone over to Antigua safe.
