American airlines cancels more than 2000 flights due to Hurricane Irma

American airlines cancels more than 2000 flights due to Hurricane Irma”

Commercial flights will cease at Orlando International Airport at 5 p.m. on Saturday due to Hurricane Irma.

Parking areas will also close, and airport officials said will operations will resume at a time to be determined.

Miami International Airport is urging people to book their reservation prior to going to the airport.

In order to get a refund, you first need to cancel your reservation and then file a claim.

The last flight out of the major worldwide gateway will be on Friday evening, according to an airport spokesperson, but given the constantly changing nature of flights, it's not clear which one that will be.

Some passengers told us they booked at the last minute to flee the potential wrath of Hurricane Irma.

Several flights to Fort Lauderdale and Miami as well as other destinations are canceled.

The airport will reopen when it is safe to do so.

Airports have comprehensive plans for situations like a major hurricane.

WestJet, Canada's second largest carrier, operated rescue flights to Punta Cana and Puerto Plata on Wednesday and could make additional trips to Santa Clara and Cayo Coco, Cuba on Thursday, airline spokeswoman Lauren Stewart said.
