Bugatti Chiron sets 0-400kph-0 world record

Bugatti Chiron sets 0-400kph-0 world record”

The Bugatti Chiron has broken the world record for the fastest 0-400kph-0 (0-249mph-0) run, achieving the feat in 41.96sec. The run, performed at VW's top secret test track, was timed and certified by German certification company SGS-TÜV Saar. It was none other than Juan Pablo Montoya, he of Formula One fame, and victor of the Indy 500 and Daytona 24Hrs, who said he would have "done anything Bugatti wanted" to drive a Chiron.

The vehicle needed 32 seconds and just over 1.6 miles to hit 249mph, at which point the brakes were firmly applied, putting 2g of force through the auto.

The carbon ceramic brake discs (which measure 420 mm at the front and 400 mm at the rear) and eight titanium piston brake callipers manage.

Bugatti President Wolfgang Dürheimer revealed in the press release that "300 of the limited series of 500 Chiron have already been sold".

Ahead of the Volkswagen Group Night conference this evening at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2017, Bugatti have released details of a new world record set by the Bugatti Chrion.

Montoya said: "Of course, the Chiron is a super sports auto that requires your full attention when you are behind the wheel". We actually drove it. "Just get in and drive off. Incredible". It eclipses the performance of its predecessor, the Veyron, although Bugatti is tight-lipped on how much quicker the Chiron is overall. The Chiron has a theoretical top speed of over 280 miles per hour, but there's now no tire available that can withstand those forces (though Michelin is apparently on the case). If tire technologies reach a point where the Chiron can truly stretch its legs, we may see Montoya behind the wheel of the hypercar once again.
