Cops Shoot Suspect at Miami Airport

Cops Shoot Suspect at Miami Airport”

Witnesses said it appeared the man was drunk and acting erratically.

Felipe Lay said the wounded man was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center. Observers within the airport tweeted out news of the shooting, including videos of police cars on the tarmac. However, on Friday afternoon there were nearly 100 flights canceled ahead of the storm, according to The Miami Herald.

According to Twitter user @ShawnWoodford, Concourse J was evacuated and police were seen surrounding an airplane at Gate J7 on the tarmac. That flight was delayed, Perez said, and those in the area were evacuated.

"A security incident led to a police-involved shooting", Miami-Dade police spokesman Alvaro Zabaleta.

They followed up shortly after confirming the scene had been secured.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement, or FDLE, handles all police-involved shootings by the police department.

It was not immediately clear how the closure was affecting flights. Other flights were not delayed.

But Woodford was able to board his flight for Toronto - at a different concourse and almost 4 hours after his original departure time.

The shooting comes as many travelers are trying to get out of the path of the Category 5 hurricane, which devastated a string of Caribbean islands and is on its way to Florida.
