Great British Bake Off Judge Apologizes For Nazi Costume

Great British Bake Off Judge Apologizes For Nazi Costume”

Paul Hollywood "devastated" to have caused offence after picture of him in Monkton dressed in Nazi outfit surfaces.

He today said he is "devastated" if the photograph "caused offence to anyone".

Hollywood explained that the photo was taken 14 years ago en route to a New Year's Eve party with a TV comedy theme.

Hollywood rounded off his costume with a red Swastika armband, a replica Iron cross medal, an eagle badge - the emblem of the Third Reich - and a cap featuring a cross-swords motif, which was worn by officers in the German army.

He said he was on his way to a TV comedy-themed party.

.

During BBC show Who Do You Think You Are? in 2015 he learned about his grandfather who served as an anti-aircraft gunner.

According to The Sun, who published the pics, they were taken in a village pub in Kent before the baker headed off to a party.

"Following the very public disgrace of figures including Prince Harry and former-MP Aiden Burley over Nazi fancy dress, the debate on the acceptability of wearing Nazi uniform for entertainment is over".

Representatives from the Campaign Against Anti-Semitism told the Guardian, "Wearing these costumes for fun is an insult to the British soldiers and civilians who died repelling Hitler's onslaught and the six million Jews and many others who were murdered".

'But some found it offensive - especially the fact they thought it was really amusing. It's kind of freaky to peddle the line that this picture was taken 14 years ago, as if the early aughts were characterized by a more swinging policy on hating Nazis and he hadn't been pushing forty at the time. "We do not expect any further action".

The photo triggered severe criticism across the United Kingdom, with many shaming the Channel 4 host on Twitter.
