NASA astronauts capture ominous footage of Hurricane Irma from space”

A separate composite image released by NASA on Friday shows hurricanes Jose, Irma and Katia in the Atlantic.

The past of the storm is being tracked by Weather Underground and can be viewed online here. The photo reveals Hurricane Irma on the horizon, next to what appears to be Cuba.

The tropical storm is a category 5 hurricane and has left a trail of destruction through the Caribbean. The latter part of the video is in black-and-white because of an issue with the camera's sensor, NASA explained.

This is not the first time Kennedy Space Center has had to deal with a storm of this magnitude and over the years, it has beefed up its preparations.

On Friday, Jose became a risky Category 4 hurricane, threatening Caribbean islands already devastated by Irma.

While astronauts on the International Space Station obviously aren't in any danger from hurricanes on our planet, they're inexorably affected by them, with family and friends possibly in the path of the raging storm. "It is one of the most powerful Atlantic hurricanes ever". "Stay safe down there". While orbiting Earth later, the ISS went over Irma.

As photos depicting the devastation already caused by Hurricane Irma circulate online, astronauts at the International Space Station captured jarring images the enormous storm swirling toward Florida. Bresnik, now the commander of the space station, tweeted a photo and wrote, "Tonight, far too many people in #Irma's path and in its wake".
