NFL Appeals Texas Court Injunction in Ezekiel Elliott's Case

NFL Appeals Texas Court Injunction in Ezekiel Elliott's Case”

U.S. District Judge Amos L. Mazzant III on Friday granted a request by the NFL Players Association for an injunction keeping Elliott eligible to play while his legal challenge of his six-game suspension by the NFL under the personal conduct policy is pending.

"The NFL's actions demonstrate that from the very beginning of the decision-making process, a cloud of fundamental unfairness followed Elliott", Mazzant wrote in his decision.

"When he was in there, he looked really impressive", Dallas owner Jerry Jones said. His appeal was recently denied, however, the decision came so late that Elliott was going to be permitted to play in Week 1.

Elliott, the NFL's 2016 rushing leader as a rookie, was suspended after the league concluded he used physical force last summer against Tiffany Thompson, his girlfriend at the time. He ruled that Elliott would suffer irreparable harm if the suspension takes effect while the legal case plays out and that Elliott also met the other criteria necessary for an injunction.

When he was asked Sunday night if he had been treated unfairly in the whole process, Elliott said he didn't want to comment any further.

"Just kind of your name getting dragged through the mud", Elliott said.

"Zeke gave them everything plus some that he needed to have here". We certainly stand to be critiqued and examined in that area.

"So why should it surprise us that when we adjudicate, or the equivalent of adjudicate, over a privilege that we've gotten in our relationship with players and we don't do it in a fair way, why should it surprise anybody if we got slapped? You have to be fair". Watch out training camps.' That's what we've got.

"I think every person that was part of the Cowboys was uplifted by the decision", Jones said. He ran 24 times for 104 yards, and one glance at an inexplicable sequence when the Cowboys attempted three passes from first and goal at the 3 in the first quarter, and had to settle for a field goal, underscores Elliott's gridiron value to the Cowboys. Jones was careful not to directly criticize the NFL's investigation, but in an elliptical response to a question, he said the process by which the National Football League deals with player discipline has to be "fair".
