Switzerland train crash: Around 30 casualties after two trains collide in Andermatt”

Around 30 people were injured on Monday in a train collision at a station in central Switzerland, police said. There were 100 people on the train when the accident happened.

"No one is in critical condition", a spokeswoman for the regional police in the Swiss canton of Uri.

The collision on the Matterhorn railway line and the police has reportedly not commented on the severity of the injuries. The road between Göschenen and Andermatt, near the north entrance to the Gotthard tunnel, is now closed.

The crash occurred at around 11:30 local time (0930 GMT) while the engine for a train was being moved to the front from the back.

The incident occurred at around 11.30am and involved a train from the Matterhorn-Gotthard-Bahn, the rail company said in a statement.

The police have opened a hotline, available at 041 874 53 70, for those seeking emergency contact.
