U.S. calls for UN Security Council vote on North Korea on Monday”

The United States is seeking the toughest-ever U.N. sanctions on North Korea that would ban all oil and natural gas exports to the northeast Asian nation and freeze all foreign financial assets of the government and its leader, Kim Jong Un.

Experts believe the isolated regime is close to its goal of developing a powerful nuclear weapon capable of reaching the United States, something President Donald Trump has vowed to prevent.

Seoul's Defense Ministry said Wednesday that four launchers and construction equipment will be moved to the former golf course where the Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense system has been set up.

Two launchers have been operational at the site since May, CNN reported.

He has also publicly weighed scrapping a USA trade deal with South Korea in a bid to fulfill promises he made during the election campaign, and threatened to make South Korea pay for THAAD, even though it was Washington pushing for the system's deployment.

President Trump said Thursday it would be "a very sad day for North Korea" if the United States is forced to use its military to respond to Kim Jong Un's nuclear threats.

The Trump administration's options are going from bad to worse as Kim Jong Un's military marches ever closer to being able to strike the U.S. mainland with nuclear weapons. We'll see whether or not he can do it.

Britain on Thursday backed the measures, saying the sanctions resolution was "a proportionate response to North Korea's illegal and reckless behavior".

Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe warned North Korea against continuing its current missile and nuclear weapons development policies.

The EU's foreign and defence ministers will discuss further sanctions for North Korea on Thursday, the bloc's top diplomat said ahead of a EU ministers' meeting in the Estonian capital.

Asked by a reporter if he'd tolerate a nuclearized North Korea that is contained and deterred, Trump declined to say: "I'm not negotiating with you".

"China holds a clear and consistent position on its opposition of the United States deploying the THAAD system in South Korea".

North Korea has reportedly promised more "gift packages" are on their way. That U.S. ally has been conducting military drills along with South Korea, which have angered Kim.

In order to stop North Korea from taking reckless actions, there is no other way but for the global community, including China and Russian Federation, to keep in step with each other and exert maximum pressure on the country, centering around the limiting of its crude oil supply.

Although China did not explicitly mention sanctions, the comment came as the USA pushed for economic restrictions on the North and specifically its leader, Kim Jong Un.
