West Side woman found dead in hotel freezer in Rosemont”

A Chicago woman who was reported missing to police was discovered inside a freezer at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosemont Sunday., Rosemont police said. She was reported missing at 1:16 p.m. Saturday.

Martin said police disclosed to her Jenkins evidently let herself into the stroll in cooler and after that kicked the bucket inside.

The hotel staff told Martin that they could not start reviewing surveillance video of the premises without a missing persons report from police. The sister said that she had received a text message from Jenkins at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

According to Gary Mack, a spokesman for the village of Rosemont, the 11-hour search was conducted across all public areas and the ninth floor, where witnesses reported to have seen her last. Rosemont Police Department also told her to wait a few hours before filing the report to see if Jenkins turned up.

"If they had taken me seriously and checked right away, they could have found my daughter much sooner and she might have been alive", she said.

Kenneka Jenkins was pronounced dead at 12:48 a.m.at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, located at 5440 N. River Rd., according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The walk-in freezer is located in a wing of the hotel that is now undergoing renovation and it is unclear how Jenkins found her way through the remnants of construction, according to Gary Mack, a spokesman for the village of Rosemont.

"This is not an area where anyone would typically be who was a guest in the hotel", he added.

Martin said that if her little girl was smashed, she would have experienced issues opening the overwhelming cooler entryways and would have acknowledged she wasn't entering a lift or the inn entrance.

According to WGN-TV, her sister Harris said: "The freezer door is heavy". Shortly after, they discovered her body in the walk-in freezer. "If she had enough strength to open that freezer door, she would have had enough strength to walk straight". Authorities do not necessarily suspect foul play, however. "(I'm) horrified. It's something that no one could ever imagine. An autopsy has been scheduled. The hotel staff will continue to cooperate fully with local authorities.
