Apple won't launch wireless charging accessory for iPhones today

Apple won't launch wireless charging accessory for iPhones today”

The new iPhones will reportedly support the Qi charging standard, which means plenty of third party chargers are already available for purchase from places such as Best Buy and Amazon. While the handsets themselves may support wireless charging, noted analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of KGI states that no official wireless charging dock will be ready for launch, even if the feature itself is revealed today.

A new report from Apple's Asian supply chain indicates that Apple still needs "technological breakthroughs" before it can start mass-producing its wireless charger. Kuo said the company's strict requirements for the charger's RF specifications led to a delay in mass production, and it's unclear how long it will be before Apple brings a wireless charging accessory to market. Apple officially joined the Wireless Power Consortium earlier this year, which defines standards so that various wireless chargers can work with each other. Until then, iPhone customers will have to make do with third-party Qi wireless chargers, Kuo, who has a commendable record with Apple's secretive information, said.

Another detail from Tuesday's Apple Insight note: Foxconn and its parent company Hon Hai may end up being a big victor this cycle.

The latest leaks suggest the new phone - its price could be in the region of £1,000 - will actually be called the iPhone X and will include wireless charging, facial recognition, an edge-to-edge display and - for the first time - no home button.

The increased orders are coming at Apple supplier Winston's expense, according to the report.
