Apple's A11 will have six cores - two powerful, four efficient

Apple's A11 will have six cores - two powerful, four efficient”

Apple's next mobile chip - the one set to power Apple's iPhones that will debut tomorrow - is going to pack a six-core processor.

This weekend's huge iOS 11 leak continues to spill the beans on the iPhone X. and the latest tidbits may be particularly relevant to performance junkies.

Just in case, if you wondered, the current chip found on iPhone 7 and 7 Plus, i.e., A10, comes with two high-powered Hurricane cores and 2 low-powered Zephyr cores.

Notably, Apple has never made an iPhone where more than two cores were active at the same time. The six cores will bring it closer to the iPad Pro, which now features three high performance "Hurricane" cores and three high efficiency "Zephyr" cores. There's more than one reference to USB-C, to begin with.

There are further nods to wireless charging, although the absence of animations hints that it might not be available right away. The world of tech is expecting three distinct iPhone models to take stage at Steve Jobs Theatre in San Jose, wherein the iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus models are expected to be upgrades of last year's iPhone 7 duo while the iPhone X will be the all new model with a thin-bezel display and unseen smartphone features.
