Arab Countries' Boycott Threat Leads to Cancellation of First Israel-Africa Summit”

Israeli Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu's signature foreign policy initiative aimed at reversing a creeping diplomatic isolation into a network of global relationships that is unprecedented in the nation's history and a bold self-lauding foreign policy answer to those who charge he harms Israel's image overseas hit a major bump in the road when the president of Togo "postponed" the planned Israel-Africa Summit.

Emmanuel Nahshon, a Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesman in a statement said "In response to the request by the president of Togo and following consultations between him and the prime minister, it was chose to put off the Israel-Africa Summit to a future, agreed-upon date".

"The President of Togo has emphasized that elaborate preparations are needed in order to guarantee the success of the event", explained the office of Israel's prime minister in a statement released Monday.

A statement issued by the ministry said the decision came at the request of the President of Togo Faure Gnassingbe following a discussion with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"At the request of the President of Togo and following a joint consultation with the Prime Minister, it was chose to postpone the convening of the Israel-Africa Summit, scheduled to take place in October in Lomé", the Foreign Ministry said.

No reschedule date has been set for the time being.

"Israel is fully committed to continue its efforts vis a vis the African continent", the Foreign Ministry stated.

"Israel believes that the countries of Africa and Israel will benefit from the continued advancement of practical cooperation among them in important areas such as water, agriculture, health and technology".
