Gov. Rauner's education secretary stepping down”

Gov. Bruce Rauner's hand-picked education czar Beth Purvis will leave her post on Friday, just weeks after the governor signed a historic education funding bill.

Bruce Rauner has departed an eight-day visit to Japan and China for his administration's first global trade mission.

Rauner says he plans to work on attracting foreign job creators to the state and to help IL businesses enhance competitiveness.

"Beth has been a tireless advocate for IL children and families", says Governor Rauner. "We are deeply grateful for her efforts".

Purvis co-chaired the governor's education transition subcommittee. She was a proponent of ensuring IL children, regardless of zip code, have access to programs "from cradle-to-career", according to the news release.

Dr. Purvis co-chaired the Governor's education transition subcommittee, where she first announced the state's goal of ensuring IL children have access to high quality programs. Emily Bastedo, who served on Rauner's legal team and as first lady Diana Rauner's chief of staff, will oversee Rauner's education policy team.
