Grizzlies' Grindfather Tony Allen reportedly signing with New Orleans”

Tony Allen has agreed to a one-year, $2.3 million deal with the New Orleans Pelicans, sources told ESPN.

Allen, 35, is a three-time All-NBA First Team Defense performer and will bring a tremendous amount of toughness to New Orleans' perimeter defense this upcoming season.

The Pelicans re-signed guard Jrue Holiday in July and have used free agency to add accomplished veteran players in Allen, Rajon Rondo and Ian Clark to surround All-Star big men Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins.

It's a sensible signing for the Pelicans, who are in desperate need of help on the wing, especially after the injury to Solomon Hill that will keep him out for an extended period.

Allen averaged 9.1 points and 5.5 rebounds in 71 games for the Grizzlies last season.

Following the departures of veteran Zach Randolph and Vince Carter to the Sacramento Kings, it was only expected that the next to go would be Allen, as the franchise goes into a different direction.

Allen and the Pelicans open the season against his former team Memphis.
