IIT alumni Sanjeev Sinha named as Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project advisor”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Prime Minister of Japan Shinzo Abe are scheduled to lay the foundation stone of the much-anticipated bullet train project on September 14.

Goyal preferred to call it a high speed rail project instead of using its popular nomenclature as the bullet train and said it is only the beginning of the high speed corridors in India, one from Delhi to Mumbai, another from Delhi to Kolkata and Delhi to Chandigarh and Nagpur as also from Mumbai to Chennai and Nagpur. "I am glad to state here that this is also a cost-effective project".

Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train project, first such in India, is being developed by a consortium of 6 Japanese companies, who have come together to form Japan Railways Group. "Shinkansen technology will transform India's transportation in the future".

For a holistic development of Indian Railways, the new railway minister has got direction from the Prime Minister. He is a prominent Indian resident of Japan for 21 years. "Repayment of loan is to begin after 15 years of receiving the loan, making it practically free since, this loan interest works out to roughly Rs 7-8 crore per month", said a railway statement.

Of the 508-km stretch, 92 per cent of the route will be elevated, six per cent in tunnel and the rest two per cent will be on the ground.

"They (Japan) are pioneers of bullet train technology, and their train has the highest punctuality rate", Mishra said.

The opposition led by the Congress has attacked the Modi dispensation over the plan to execute the capital-intensive bullet train project when the existing railway network is suffering due to underinvestment.

Japan was also ready to transfer the technology to India and sponsoring the project.

"About 825 hectares of land would be acquired for the high speed rail", he said.

The Ahmedabad-Mumbai bullet train will set the pace of running trains at speeds of over 250 km per hour, covering the 508-km distance in just two hours and seven minutes as against the existing travel time of 7-8 hours.

The bullet train will run at an average speed of 320 km per hour with a maximum speed of 350 km per hour.
