Lightning, Panthers, NHL and NHLPA donate $2.7 million to Florida hurricane relief

Lightning, Panthers, NHL and NHLPA donate $2.7 million to Florida hurricane relief”

Individual teams, the National Hockey League, and the NHLPA are once again pitching in to help out with hurricane relief.

The Lightning, Panthers, NHL and NHLPA joined to donate $2.7 million to Hurricane Irma relief efforts in Florida.

Irma caused extensive damage to the entire state of Florida after making landfall in the state Sunday, first hitting the Florida Keys before a second landfall on Marco Island on the state's west coast.

The hurricane forced the Panthers to shuttle 80 players, staff, and family members to Boston as the storm beared down upon Florida.

It's been a busy summer of off-the-ice news for the Lightning, as they also chipped in with other local professional sports teams in an effort to move a Confederate monument from downtown Tampa.

While the National Hockey League has partnered up to make their donation, fans too can assist the hurricane relief efforts.

Lightning owner Jeff Vinik previously donated $1 million to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts in Texas.
