Philips Going Really Wide with their 492P8 Monitor

Philips Going Really Wide with their 492P8 Monitor”

Philips is planning to release the 492P8 sometime in the second quarter of next year. That's a few hundred dollars less than Samsung's monitor, which can be found on Amazon for $1,500.

"The 492P8 is built around a 49" VA panel with 1800R curvature, a 32:9 aspect ratio, and a resolution of 3840x1080. It Is not yet clear whether or not the monitor will retain the same 144Hz refresh rate and high dynamic range (HDR). Either way, the display's brightness is specified at a sizzling 600 cd/m², the contrast at an impressive 5000:1, and the viewing angles are reported to be 178°. We already know that Samsung is working on a 49-inch ultra-wide monitor (C49HG90) with FreeSync 2 support, but now we've learned that Philips is getting in on the action with a cheaper option.

Philips Going Really Wide with their 492P8 Monitor

Serious gamers are probably going to look elsewhere for G-SYNC / FreeSync and speedy refresh rates while those eyeballing loads of desktop real estate would likely better be served by using a decent 4K TV as a monitor. Depending on reviews it could also be good for flight sims, 4X games, and other gaming as well. Details lack, but it'll get DisplayPort, VGA, and a pair of HDMI connectors, alongside two USB 3.0 Type-A ports and a gigabit Ethernet port. The monitor is miles away from release, it is mentioned at Q2 2018. OF course, there is plenty of time for specifications and pricing to change between now and then, but it seems Philips is aiming for a budget option under $1100.
