Sony RX10 IV debuts with 'world's fastest' hybrid AF and 24fps bursts

Sony RX10 IV debuts with 'world's fastest' hybrid AF and 24fps bursts”

Sony is in New York City, where it just announced another Cyber-shot RX10-branded camera. The new camera, a successor to last year's RX10 III, again comes with a 24-600mm (35mm equivalent) f/2.4-4 Zeiss Vario-Sonnar T* lens and a 1-inch, 20.1-megapixel stacked CMOS sensor. Sony said these key components all work together to maximize overall speed of operation and performance, ultimately ensuring the highest possible image and video quality throughout the entire range of the lens. In the meantime, enjoy a quick sample of the RX10 IV's ridiculous 24-fps continuous shooting speed in action. The RX10 IV can shoot at that speed for up to 249 images before the buffer is full, too. "This advanced technology, which had only been previously available in a select few of Sony's acclaimed line of α interchangeable lens cameras, concentrates AF points around a subject to improve tracking and focus accuracy, allowing even the most unpredictable subjects including fast-moving athletes and birds in flight to be captured easily".

As for video, the new RX10 falls about square in line with the capabilities of Sony's other RX cameras.

The RX10 IV also has a high-speed Anti-Distortion Shutter (maximum shutter speed of up to 1/32,000 second) that reduces the "rolling shutter" effect commonly experienced with fast moving subjects, and can shoot completely silently in all modes, including continuous high speed shooting, when electronic shutter is engaged. The 25x lens features built-in Optical SteadyShot image stabilization with 4.5 stops of shake compensation.

In the area of video recording, the RX10 IV can shoot 4K video with full pixel readout without pixel binning, capturing 1.7 times more data than is needed for 4K footage. There's an input for external mics and an output for headphone monitoring.

You have the option of shooting at either 24p or 30p in 4K mode (100 Mbps), or in frame rates of up to 120p in Full HD mode. The price may a little bit higher for the RX10 this time around, but Sony's effort to make the camera as silly fast as its other leading cameras might just make the cost worth it for some when it drops in October.
