Suzuki Swift Sport goes from warm to hot hatch status

Suzuki Swift Sport goes from warm to hot hatch status”

THE all-new Suzuki Swift Sport has made its global premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show, and the third-generation of the model features a lower, wider stance, more aggressive styling, and a torque-to-weight ratio Suzuki claims slots it into genuine hot hatch territory.

While the latest figures are barely on the radar of some of Europe and Japan's most powerful hot hatches, namely the new 134kW three-cylinder turbo Ford Fiesta ST, the Swift Sport unequivocally maintains the power stronghold over the current Swift flagship, which is powered by an 82kW/160Nm turbocharged triple.

Add to that a curb weight that has dropped by 80 kg (176 lb) to just 970 kg (2,138 lb), and you begin to understand why the 2018 Swift Sport is quicker than its predecessor.

The advanced handling capabilities found in previous Swift Sport models have been further refined in the new model, with greater driving stability, optimized roll rigidity, and improved dynamic response.

This is equipped with a six-speed manual gearbox, taken straight from the previous Swift Sport. Another reason is the updated, stiffer suspension.

Thanks to the Swift's "Heartect" platform and design enhancements of some of the car's components, the hot hatch weighs 970kg - 80kg lighter than the outgoing vehicle.

The Swift Sport is distinguished from the rest of the range by its shields, honeycomb grille, roof spoiler, dummy diffuser, two large exhaust outlets and 17-inch wheels. This supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus there are lots of safety features including auto emergency brakes, lane keep assistance and adaptive cruise.
