Trump Lawyers Wanted Kushner Fired Over Russian Probe, WSJ Reports”

Some of President Trump's lawyers urged him to fire Jared Kushner as White House senior adviser earlier this year in an effort to curb the potential legal complications stemming from the ongoing Russian Federation investigation, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

Instead of pushing Kushner to leave the administration, the Trump team has since changed up its legal team, which seems to matter very little to Robert Mueller as he ratchets up his special counsel investigation.

The lawyers were so anxious about the situation their press aides drafted a statement explaining Kushner's departure, but Trump was convinced Kushner had not done anything wrong and he did not need to leave his post.

According to a new report from The Wall Street Journal, the lawyers cited Kushner's "legal complications with the ongoing Russian Federation investigation" and anxious that he would become a liability for the administration as special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation intensified.

Kushner attended the meeting alongside Donald Trump Jr. and Trump's former campaign manager Paul Manafort.

The month afters attempts to push out Kushner failed, Kushner testified before the Senate Intelligence Community that he did not collude with a foreign governments to sway the 2016 presidential election in Trump's favor.

Kushner dismissed the meeting as a "waste of time".

"I didn't agree with that view at all. I thought it was absurd", John Dowd, who is now Trump's top personal attorney, told the Journal, going so far as to deny he was ever aware of the proposal being brought to the president.

The statement, written on Kushner's behalf, blamed a "toxic" political environment for his departure, lamenting that a standard meeting was being used as a "weapon for Mr. Trump's critics", two people familiar with the documents told the Journal.

Trump contended there was no need for Kushner to resign, according to the report.

According to the report, it was Kushner's admitted contacts with Russians during and after the campaign which caused him to stand out as a cause for concern among current senior White House staff.
