Wolff sees big challenge ahead for Mercedes”

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes moved past Vettel for the first in the series after this victory in Italy and is ahead by 3 points as they get set to hit the track.

Hamilton claimed a third place finish at the circuit previous year, but Vettel has been victorious in four of the last six Grand Prix at Marina Bay.

"We will approach it with healthy scepticism, leave no stone unturned and aim to deliver every bit of performance that we can".

"This is a circuit we have found hard to master with its combination of short, sharp corners, relatively short straights and bumpy surface", Wolff said.

He added: "We will be moving to Asia with the hope that we can surmount the challenge that is ahead of us".

"Identifying clearly our strengths and our weaknesses has been a strength of our team in recent seasons".

Despite returning to winning ways with Rosberg last year Mercedes came under relentless pressure from both Red Bull and Ferrari and a similar scrap is predicted for this year's race having seen Ferrari triumph on tight and twisty circuits this year - mainly Monaco and Hungary - while the new technical regulations have bunched the top three teams closer together in terms of vehicle performance.

"I still believe there are certain characteristics of the tracks that suit the vehicle or not, and you can see this year, the slow, twisty circuits have rather suited Red Bull and Ferrari".

Although the Austrian is expecting a tough weekend, at a track that should play to the strengths of the Red Bull Racing and Scuderia Ferrari machines over those of Mercedes, he takes great solace in the fact that his team managed to win here a year ago.

Sometimes, characteristics like this are simply in the DNA of a auto. With a much-improved auto over a year ago, he had even mentioned in the past that it was "good news" other teams were trying to get the Maranello team penalized for performing so well.

"The learning from these past two weeks should collectively put us in a better position for Singapore but I think still Ferrari are going to be quick there", he said. It's about understanding the vehicle and the more we clock mileage the more we learn about it. Saturdays they're very strong which obviously has its contribution to Sundays, it's not a big secret but I think we are strong, we don't need to hide and there's plenty of positives.

"I think the auto is continuing to improve and as I said, our understanding of the vehicle is constantly improving".

"The auto is constantly improving and if we went back to Hungary, for example, maybe we would be in a better position having already been there".
