Andre Green: Aston Villa winger out for 'months' following hamstring surgery

Andre Green: Aston Villa winger out for 'months' following hamstring surgery”

"I don't like seeing a player sent off but Middlesbrough's Adama Traore left the floor and it was reckless, risky and very bad".

Former Villa winger Adama Traore was sent off after just four minutes but Villa could not take advantage before losing Henri Lansbury to a red card midway through the second half.

The result leaves Steve Bruce's Villa languishing in 18th, three points above the relegation zone, while Middlesbrough are 9th.

Middlesbrough, fresh from their first away win in 13 months, certainly made a positive start with Ben Gibson quickly testing the ability of Villa's talented goalkeeper Sam Johnstone, who was forced to make an impressive save to his left to keep out a well-directed header.

Garry Monk was unhappy with James Linington's decision to send off Traoré, and questioned the Lansbury red card too.

Villa's poor finishing was highlighted when Davies cleverly put Robert Snodgrass in possession only for the Scot to shoot weakly straight at goalkeeper Darren Randolph.

Lansbury has not enjoyed the best of times at Villa Park since arriving from Forest, and has drifted in and out of the starting eleven. "But he deserved the red card".

Aston Villa's Scott Hogan was in the wrong place at the wrong time as he blocked Conor Hourihane's goal-bound effort against Middlesbrough.
