Apple unveils iPhone X, iPhone 8 in 'breathtaking' Steve Jobs Theater

Apple unveils iPhone X, iPhone 8 in 'breathtaking' Steve Jobs Theater”

Apple's most recent smartwatch, the Apple Watch Series 2, was released a year ago and featured a faster processor, Global Positioning System tracking, and the ability to wear it while swimming. It also has new gyroscopes and accelerometers to enable augmented reality functions. On the wearables front, the company unveiled the Apple Watch Series 3.

In the United Kingdom it will only come on EE for use with calls and on the move.

The LTE Watch starts at $399 and will be available September 22. It looks similar to its predecessor, except for a red accent on a knob on the right side of the device.

Additionally, the first series of Apple Watch will see a price reduction to AU$359. It will be available for pre-orders on September 15 and will go on general sale on September 22.

The event is expected to be jam-packed with Apple's newest products, with its 10th anniversary iPhone as the crown jewel. The new OLED screen covers nearly the entire front of the gadget, with a new security Face ID feature included to unlock the phone. It now not only supports 4K streaming, but also supports HDR10 and Dolby Vision for more accurate and vivid reproduction of 4K footages. "The edge-to-edge 5.7" Super Retina Display OLED screen with 458 PPI. Apple Vice President Eddy Cue said Apple will sell ultra-high definition films from Hollywood studios at $19.99, the same price it now offers high-definition films.

Apple says it's been working with movie studios to bring titles with 4K and HDR to its iTunes store. Even then, Apple Watch Series 3 continues to be the same size as Series 2, with only the back crystal extended by 0.25mm, claiming to be as thin as two sheets of paper. This seemed to confirm earlier speculation that Apple is developing a smartwatch with cellular capabilities.

The leak comes ahead of the scheduled launch event that Apple has planned on September 12.

Apple initially marketed the Watch as a luxury item, but it has focused more on health and fitness recently.

Apple's premium smartwatch, the Apple Watch Edition, has a white ceramic case and starts at $1,249.

In announcing the new device, Apple's Tim Cook proclaimed that the company is now the world's largest watchmaker, having recently surpassed Rolex, a figure that The Verge said is likely based on revenues.
