Approximately 30% of United Kingdom hold at least one anti-Semitic viewpoint

Approximately 30% of United Kingdom hold at least one anti-Semitic viewpoint”

And, after the launch of the report at the JPR headquarters on Tuesday, Dr Boyd told the JN that as yet unanalysed data from the survey showed that "people who know Jews are less likely to be anti-Semitic".

The report says that a little over 5% of the United Kingdom could be viewed as anti-Semitic.

The report's author, Dr. Daniel Staetsky, who is a senior research fellow at the institute, wrote that levels of anti-Semitism in the United Kingdom were still among the lowest around the globe. "In keeping with the elastic view, we draw a critical distinction between counting anti-Semites and measuring anti-Semitism".

One percent of people said it would be acceptable to be violent towards Jews due to their religious beliefs.

On the political spectrum, levels of anti-Semitism are found to be highest among the far-right, and levels of anti-Israelism are heightened across all parts of the left-wing, but particularly on the far-left.

"In all cases, the higher the level of anti-Israelism, the more likely it is to be accompanied by anti-Semitism".

Almost a third of Britons have one anti-Semitic opinion or more, and more than half endorse at least one hard-line anti-Israel statement, according to The Institute for Jewish Policy Research (IJPR).

In what it claims is the largest survey of attitudes towards Jews and Israel, the IJPR posed a series of statements including "Jews think they are better than other people", "Jews exploit Holocaust victimhood for their own purposes" and "Jews get rich at the expense of others" to 5,466 people.

The report also contends that while most of those holding anti-Israel positions are not anti-Semitic, "a significant minority of those who hold anti-Israel attitudes hold them alongside anti-Semitic attitudes".

"The survey also provided a detailed assessment of the population's opinions about Jews and Israel, and addressed the question of the relationship between anti-Semitism and anti-Israelism using statistical techniques for the first time".

Muslims were likely to be two to four times more likely to hold anti-Israel views than the general population, although the report found that 60 per cent of Muslims agreed that "a British Jew is just as British as any other person". Dr Rich said the work resonated with material produced by the CST past year.

Johnson said that Jewish leaders were "very satisfied" with the measures put in place by the British government to tackle anti-Semitism.

Stephen Moss, chairman of the JPR, said that there was considerable data yet to be analysed and suggested that a second report based on these findings could be published next year.
