Bombay HC adjourns Ryan trustees bail plea till afternoon”

Ryan International Group's founding chairman Augustine Pinto (73) and his wife Grace Pinto (62), who is the group's managing director, had yesterday approached the high court seeking anticipatory bail apprehending arrest in the case.

"If the top management of the school can share in the plunder and prosperity, why should they be sceptical in subjecting themselves to the clutches of law and the rule of law and to the vicarious liability when due to their negligence and ignorance, the incidents like of Pradyuman take place within the walls of a school", he said in the application.

"The matter is adjourned till tomorrow on the request of the additional public prosecutor appearing for the Maharashtra government".

Tekriwal said the application will be filed in the high court registry, following which Justice Gadkari posted the hearing of the anticipatory bail pleas of the Pintos later this afternoon. Senior Advocate Niteen Pradhan filed a plea in the court, stating that the incident was most unfortunate but the management could not be held culpable, as sought by the parents of the deceased child. Parents of the student took the school management to court for targeting the child in school and eventually suspending him.

Moreover, he said, the CCTV cameras installed in the school premises helped nab the accused. It also sent the Human Resources head of the group, Jeyus Thomas, to judicial custody till September 18.

The two-member Haryana police team of assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Madan Singh and Police Inspector (PI) Anand Kumar arrived at Samta Nagar Police station this morning; the headquarters comes under the jurisdiction of the police station. The report of a fact-finding committee, constituted by the Gurgaon district administration, has detected several lapses in the school, including no police verification of bus drivers, conductors and other staff, and broken boundary wall. They approached the Samta Nagar police, who then made arrangements at the school to prevent any untoward situation.

The city police was not part of the investigation, he said. "We provided adequate number of policemen to accompany them to school".

The Class II student was found in the washroom of the school with his throat slit on September 9.

The pleas were filed after the arrest of two officials from the school and will be heard before a single Bench of Justice A.S. Gadkari on Tuesday.
