Bungie pulls Destiny 2 item resembling white supremacist symbol

Bungie pulls Destiny 2 item resembling white supremacist symbol”

A week after the release of Destiny 2, developer Bungie is removing a piece of equipment from the game due to its similarity to a hate symbol used by alt-right ideology members.

A pair of legendary Hunter gauntlets had a design which was similar to the "Kekistan" flag, a fictional country whose flag is created to hark back to Nazi imagery. Many felt that this was eerily close to a similar symbol used by a white supremacist group that was seen during the recent Charlottesville rally where a woman was killed by a auto that plowed into a crowd of counter protesters.

Destiny 2 server maintenance will be a monthly routine as clarified by Bungie although this extended maintenance period is proving to be a frustration for some users who are voicing their disappointment over reddit, Twitter and other social media platforms. On Twitter, developer Bungie said that it had found a set of gauntlets (armor gloves) that shared "elements with a hate symbol". It is not intentional.

The studio apologised in a tweet this afternoon, saying: "We renounce hate in all forms" and that "the likeness was unintentional".

The update comes a day before the game's first Raid launches, when players will undoubtedly be racing to become world's first to complete Destiny 2's hardest end-game PvE activity. "It will be removed from inspections and icons in a HotFix planned for next week".
