Destiny 2 Removing Item That Resembles Hate Group Symbol

Destiny 2 Removing Item That Resembles Hate Group Symbol”

The team is "working quickly to correct this".

While Bungie gave no specifics as to which armored gauntlet it was referring to, Polygon reports that a Reddit user thinks that they have figured it out.

Gauntlets in Destiny 2 known as Road Complex AA1 are being removed from the game because Bungie claims it shares elements similar to a "hate symbol", specifically the Kekistan flag, a fictional piece of mimetic iconography spawned from the media hysteria surrounding Pepe the Frog.

Numerous followers of the Bungie account praised the developer for removing the imagery from the game. The company explained that the reference was not "intentional" and that it will be removing it from the game. We renounce hate in all forms.

Offering its "deepest apologies" to fans, the Bungie stated that the item in question "does NOT represent our values".

The Souther Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which chronicles hate groups, has an entry on the so-called "satirical religion" and the group's actions.

The "National Flag of Kekistan" also features a stylized version of "kek" over a green background and is said to be modeled after the Nazi swastika war symbol.

In the same post, the legal advocacy organization notes the flag was included in a poster for an August 12 "Unite the Right" demonstration in Charlottesville, Va. Alt-right protesters have been seen carrying the flag at rallies before. Before that, the server maintenance was originally scheduled to be completed by 11 AM PDT, or 2 PM EDT. During this time, Bungie addressed the imagery issue and extended the estimated completion time to 2 p.m. A fix for the gauntlet's image in inspections and icons will go live next week.
