Frankfurt 2017: Mercedes-Benz EQA concept electrifies the compact class”

Mercedes-Benz have unveiled their first all-electric compact segment concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show 2017.

Following on from the EQC concept auto revealed at last year's Paris motor show that is due to be launched from 2019, the production version of the EQA is expected to follow soon after as Mercedes-Benz marches towards its stated goal of offering 10 all-electric vehicles on the market by 2022. Compared with the B-Class F-CELL, the drive system offers around 40 percent more output.

With two driving modes on offer, Sport and Sport Plus, that can split torque front and rear, the Concept EQA can accelerate from zero to 100km/h in about five seconds, making the all-electric small vehicle quicker to the landmark triple digits than some dedicated sportscars including the Toyota 86 and Mazda MX-5.

It manages a range of about 400 kilometres depending on the battery installed. In rapid charging mode, the EQA concept needs 10 minutes of juicing up to add 100 km (62 miles) of extra range.

The design of the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA is similar in concept to the A Class. It features boxy proportions with short overhangs. The alubeam paint finish contrast with the black panoramic glass roof. We have no doubt you'll easily spot the 20-inch wheels, LED matrix lights and the lack of a traditional radiator grille - not needed any more, thus replaced by a digital one that can change its appearance. The Concept EQA uses a unique lighting concept with laser fibres creating a spiral-shaped signature which screams electricity.

"With the Mercedes-Benz Concept EQA, our electric initiative is gathering pace: by 2022 Mercedes-Benz Cars will have more than ten all-electric vehicles on the market", Dr Dieter Zetsche, CEO of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars, said.
