Olivier Giroud Reveals Why He Stayed At Arsenal This Summer”

Olivier Giroud admits that he came close to leaving Arsenal in the summer before deciding in favour of continuing at the Emirates.

Everton, Marseille and West Ham were all interested in the France global, but in the end he stayed put.

The Daily Telegraph understood during the summer that the Premier League pair, as well as Ligue 1 duo Marseille and Lyon were all monitoring the future of Giroud, who himself admitted his immediate future could lie away from north London. The news was a particular blow to Everton, who had designs on making the France worldwide the direct replacement for Romelu Lukaku.

Opening up on his decision to remain in place, despite the interest from elsewhere, the Frenchman told reporters: "It is a very private decision".

And sitting alongside his manager at the pre-match press conference, Giroud said: "It's a privilege for me to play for Arsenal and to score nearly 100 goals".

It's good that Olivier Giroud chose to stay at the Emirates.

"I thought the story was not over or finished at Arsenal".

"It is true I was close to leaving the club because I said I wanted to play, but after a big reflection with my family and close friends in the sport, I wanted to stay at Arsenal".

Giroud spoke today after the speculation over the last transfer window.

Wenger will make a raft of changes as Arsenal play in the competition for the first time in 17 years, with Giroud expected to be one of several alterations.

Giroud, a £10m signing from Montpellier in 2012, has featured four times from the bench so far in the Premier League this term.
