Over 20000 evacuated from Moscow train stations, shopping malls over bomb threat”

Over 20,000 people have been evacuated from shopping malls, train stations and two universities in Moscow after bomb threat calls, the Russian capital's emergencies services told TASS on Wednesday.

At least five cities were targeted by bomb scares in the Russian Far East, Interfax reports.

In Siberia, an airport in Abakan was among 19 buildings to receive anonymous bomb threats.

Largely, bomb threat calls were about Moscow's major shopping malls and three train stations - Leningradsky, Kazansky and Kievsky.

The First Moscow State Medical University and Moscow State Institute of International Relations were also placed in lockdown as the authorities went into operation.

Security services told the RIA news agency that over 45,000 people were evacuated from public places in 22 Russian cities on Tuesday, adding that numerous calls appeared to have come from Ukraine.

The official RIA Novosti news agency quoted an unnamed source in the security services as saying 45,000 people had been evacuated Tuesday from 205 buildings in 22 cities. Emergency services are working.

The threats were received "almost simultaneously", RT reported, adding that bomb squads with sniffer dogs were present at the sites.

"It seems like telephone terrorism and nothing else, but all the calls should be checked up", he continued.

Many were city halls, schools and other official buildings, according to local news reports.
