Top Dems Say Flynn left Mideast Trip off Security Clearance”

Democratic lawmakers are probing whether retired U.S. General Michael Flynn secretly promoted a U.S.

Two House Democrats sent a letter Tuesday saying that past business partners confirmed that ousted national security adviser Michael Flynn failed to disclose a business trip to the Middle East to discuss a proposal to partner with Russian Federation to build nuclear reactors in Saudi Arabia. Elijah Cummings (D-Maryland) and Eliot Engel (D-New York) requested additional information about the undisclosed Middle East trip first reported by Newsweek in June.

But Flynn never disclosed the trip or his contact with foreign officials in January 2016 when he reapplied for a security clearance, which is required under federal law, the Democrats say.

The project proposes to construct 40 nuclear reactors across the Middle East that would feed a regional electric grid.

Cummings is the ranking Democrat on the House Oversight Committee and Engel is the top Democrat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee, which has jurisdiction regarding the security clearance process. Russian Federation has denied interfering in the USA election and Trump has said there was no collusion. For according to a new report at CNN, several congresspeople allege Flynn failed to disclose a trip to the Middle East, during which he tried to broker a business deal for Russian Federation.

Trump, who took office on January 20, fired Flynn on February 13, 18 days after a top Justice Department official warned that the former Defense Intelligence Agency director could be blackmailed because Moscow knew he made misleading statements about his contacts with Russian officials.

In a letter sent to Flynn's former business partners, Reps.

"It appears that General Flynn violated federal law by omitting this trip and these foreign contacts from his security clearance renewal application in 2016 and concealing them from security clearance investigators who interviewed him", the letter states.
