UN Security Council Unanimously Adopts Tough New North Korea Sanctions

UN Security Council Unanimously Adopts Tough New North Korea Sanctions”

The US is calling for an oil embargo on Pyongyang, an assets freeze on leader Kim Jong-Un, but also an end to textile exports and to payments made to North Korean guest workers.

United Nations experts on Saturday said North Korea had illegally exported coal, iron and other commodities worth almost $270 million to countries like China, Malaysia, India and Sri Lanka this year.

"We are not looking for war", she added. It was slapped with sanctions (along with India, which also conducted tests), but those were gradually lifted as the world found no alternative to this new geopolitical reality. Kim Jong-un is aggressively pursuing nuclear weapons because he believes they offer his only real guarantee against a future USA -led regime change. "But if we do, it will be a very sad day for North Korea".

Haley said the Trump administration believes the new sanctions combined with previous measures would ban over 90 per cent of North Korea's exports reported in 2016.

Monday's decision was the eighth sanctions resolution unanimously adopted by the 15-member Security Council since 2006 over North Korea's ballistic missile and nuclear programmes.

"Our whole concept does not allow for the isolation and strangulation of North Korea, and the weakening of the regime", he explains. We are in a position now - and you know the new orders.

It is hoping for a Monday vote though both China and Russian Federation are thought to have raised opposition to the measures.

"Make no mistake about it", he said, "our firmness today is our best antidote to the risk of war, to the risk of confrontation, and our firmness today is our best tool for a political solution tomorrow".

"China is consistently committed to the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula, to the peace and stability of the peninsula and to the solution of the issue through dialogue and consultation", said Chinese Ambassador to the UN Liu Jieyi after the vote.

Past year it detonated a nuclear bomb sending shockwaves through the global community.

North Korea's state-run television shows leader Kim Jong Un hosting celebration events to congratulate his nuclear scientists and technicians behind the latest nuclear test.

The Pyongyang regime claimed that the test involved a hydrogen bomb and that the country was now capable of mounting nuclear bombs on intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM).

"The world will witness how the DPRK (North Korea) tames the USA gangsters by taking a series of actions tougher than they have ever envisaged", an official spokesperson in Pyongyang said.

North Korea imports all the crude oil it consumes-some 520,000 tons a year-most of which comes from China.

"The North Korean regime is still getting some fuel supplies from China, which can keep its most essential operations functioning", he said.

Local residents worry about rumored health hazards related to the system's high-powered radars and the possibility of being targeted in North Korean attacks.

"I could also imagine such a format to settle the North Korea conflict", she said.

North Korea will be feeling the pain of new United Nations sanctions targeting some of its biggest remaining foreign revenue streams.

On Monday the United States will attempt to reign Kim in, calling for the toughest sanctions ever at the UN.
