United Nations sees 'textbook example of ethnic cleansing' in Myanmar

United Nations sees 'textbook example of ethnic cleansing' in Myanmar”

Chander also wrote that India will adopt "a large number of recommendations" from the Universal Periodic Review.

The OIC meeting called upon the government of Myanmar to accept the UN Human Rights Council's fact-finding mission to conduct a thorough and independent investigation into all alleged violations of worldwide human rights law and to bring the perpetrators to justice.

"There appears to be inadequate appreciation of the freedoms and rights that are guaranteed and practised daily in a vibrant democracy built under challenging conditions", wrote Chander.

Further rejecting the criticism, Chander said, "Tendentious judgments made on the basis of selective and even inaccurate reports do not further the understanding of human rights in any society".

During his oral presentation, Zeid addressed a lack of consistency in human rights policies, European Union nonuniform voice in global human rights, and specifically addressed issues in several countries. He said, the central role of terrorism is once again being overlooked. Akbaruddin also insisted that India is concerned about illegal migrants, in particular, with the possibility that they could pose security challenges. Akbaruddin was quoted as saying by ANI that we believe achieving human rights goals calls for objective consideration, balanced judgements, and verification of facts.

"Our Government s motto of 'Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas (Inclusive Development), is a true reflection of our commitment to achieve inclusive development in the spirit of leaving none of our citizens behind", Chander added. In Turkey, the human rights effort is deteriorating as freedom of speech and information access is being restricted.

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Myanmar last week, his government reiterated that it wants to deport all Rohingya refugees who have left Myanmar in previous years.

These constitute a serious and blatant violation of global law, said the OIC after a meeting called to discuss the atrocities against the Rohingya.

Zeid Ra'ad al-Hussein, addressing the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, said that more than 270,000 people had fled to Bangladesh, with more trapped on the border, amid reports of the burning of villages and extrajudicial killings. India is implementing measures to deport Rohingyas; about 40,000 Rohingyas have migrated to India with only 16,000 of them receiving refugee documentation.
