WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton announces resignation, will start a non-profit

WhatsApp co-founder Brian Acton announces resignation, will start a non-profit”

One of the co-founders of WhatsApp, the messaging app bought by Facebook Inc. for $22 billion three years ago, is stepping down to start a foundation. He said that he plans to start a new chapter in his life and start a non-profit.

Mr. Acton's exit comes as WhatsApp lays the groundwork to make.

Confirming the news on his Facebook post, he said - "I am very fortunate at my age to have the flexibility to take new risks and focus on what I'm passionate about".

Acton's move came to fore after he posted on Facebook about his decision. Brian Acton, the co-founder of WhatsApp, along with Neeraj Arora, Head of Business, WhatsApp had visited Indian Institute of Technology -Delhi to interact with the students.

With a net worth of roughly $6.5 billion, Acton now overlooks the company's engineering team and is expected to hand off his duties to other engineers.

"It's something I've thought about for a while, and now it's time to just focus and execute", the 45-year-old added.

After the acquisition by Facebook, Acton was leading the engineering efforts at WhatsApp. This decision is, of course, a tough one. Brian Acton with current CEO of WhatsApp Jan Koum launched the messaging app service back in 2009, which now has 1.3 billion monthly active users and 1 billion daily active users. Furthermore, a few reports also revealed that the company could charge enterprises if they want multiple representatives for managing an account and send "high volumes of messages", AI-powered bot functionality or even e-commerce transactions.
