Mortgage rates hold at 2017 lows, Freddie Mac says

A year ago at this time, the 30-year FRM averaged 3.50 percent.

The 30-year fixed-rate mortgage averaged 3.78% in the week ending September 14.

The 15-year fixed rate was also unchanged at 3.08 percent, but the rate for five-year adjustable rate mortgages ticked down two basis points to 3.13 percent. A year ago at this time, the average rate for a 15-year was 2.77%. Visit the following link for the Definitions.

Freddie's chief economist says rates may move higher following sharp gains this week in the 10-year Treasury yield. The 30-year mortgage rate, however, remained unchanged at 3.78 percent.

Mortgage rates fell despite a surge in Treasury yields.

Freddie Mac said on Wednesday it will suspend sales of foreclosed homes until year-end and will stop until further notice evictions of homeowners in eligible areas devastated by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. We are building a better housing finance system for homebuyers, renters, lenders and taxpayers.
