Motel 6 is apparently calling ICE on undocumented guests”

After digging into Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrest paperwork, the paper has uncovered an abundance of incidents where ICE agents have curiously knocked on the doors of Motel 6 guests who happen to be undocumented immigrants. All they know is when someone shows a Mexican ID at check in. Juan Rocha, an attorney representing the suspect, told the New Times. Rodriguez-Juarez told New Times that when asked for his ID by the registration desk, he showed them his Mexican voter ID card. "How does that establish that you're here without authorization?" This makes the story of what's been happening at two Phoenix-area Motel 6's especially bad and disgusting.

"I don't know how it works, but if you check in and you have a warrant, you're going to get picked up", another Motel 6 employee told New Times.

Denise Aguilar, an immigration attorney based in Arizona, said that rumors of employee incentives were being floated around those in ICE custody.

And to somehow make this story even worse, one immigration attorney (whose client is now being detained by ICE and has spoken to others in the same situation) has heard an unsettling rumor involving alleged compensation for these Motel 6 reports: "They have heard (no telling how valid the info is) that ICE is paying $200 per person for the front-desk clerk to report". "Every morning at about 5 o'clock, we do the audit and we push a button and it sends it to ICE". Indeed, the representative would only speak "hypothetically" about vague "targeted enforcement" methods that are regularly employed.

Employees from the two locations told the New Times that sharing guest information with ICE was standard practice.

Motel 6's privacy policy says it collects a slew of information on its guests via online bookings and physical stays, including name, gender, birthdate, image, nationality, ID, credit card info, "information collected during your visit to a company hotel or motel through the use of closed circuit television systems" and "internet systems", and a lot more.

"I wouldn't be able to confirm how we are getting our information".

Motel 6 has a history of nationwide narc-ery, as documented by the American Civil Liberties Union in a 2015 statement about the chain's habit of collaboration with local police. However, it left open the possibility that the hotel could voluntarily disclose that information to law enforcement officials.
