Stoke's Mark Hughes tried to get Jose Mourinho sent off

Stoke's Mark Hughes tried to get Jose Mourinho sent off”

United have shown their resilience by scoring consistently after the break and took the lead on 57 minutes with Romelu Lukaku's fourth league goal of the season.

Cape Town - Mark Hughes was left puzzled after Jose Mourinho did not engage in the customary post-match handshake following their teams' 2-2 draw on Saturday. In fairness, I've got history with non-handshakes so maybe it's me!

Mourinho was also quizzed about the incident in a post-match interview, but the Red Devils boss dismissed the question as irrelevant.

United have struggled to replicate the success that saw them become the major force in the Premier League under Alex Ferguson, who guided the club to the last of their 20 top-flight titles four years ago. "But they did well and physically they were very strong and they probably deserved the point".

Mourinho was dismissive of what he perceived to be defensive tactics from the Potters in the 2-2 draw - a claim Hughes refuted - and at one point during the game the Portuguese was pushed by his counterpart when he entered his technical area.

United scored 10 goals without reply in their three victories before the worldwide break but came unstuck against a team that have already beaten Arsenal this season.

"I'm not sure why he didn't want to shake my hand, I didn't think there were any issues". It's a bad question.

While only three teams have drawn away to the Potters and won the league - United would join Leicester in 2015-16 and neighbours Manchester City in 2011-12 and 2013-14 should they win the title. "It makes it look like it's my fault but that's not right".

"We will always try and go up against teams", Hughes said.

Mark Hughes' men would not be denied though and were back in the contest just six minutes later.

"And your question is not correct, I am sorry". "You could argue United played more long balls and why wouldn't they, because they've got power and pace to burn? We were never in any danger of being overrun or overcome by them and that's great credit to us".
