Anti-doping bodies want Russian Federation ban

Anti-doping bodies want Russian Federation ban”

Allegations of state-sponsored Russian doping multiplied after a World Anti-Doping Agency commission in 2015 found that more than 1,000 Russian competitors in more than 30 sports were involved in a conspiracy to hide positive drug tests over a period of five years.

Seventeen national anti-doping agencies have called for Russian Federation to be banned from next year's Pyeongchang Winter Olympics over "one of the biggest doping scandals in sports history".

A group of 17 anti-doping leaders wants the Russian Olympic Committee banned from the upcoming Winter Games.

However, Alexander Zhukov said Wada "didn't support this position". This is just the position of several Nados.

International Olympic Committee member Denis Oswald said evidence gathered so far will be combined with results of tests to determine whether urine and blood sample bottles had been tampered with, to replace positive samples with clean samples.

Zhukov said he hopes compliance will happen in November.

"We have serious doubts that the 2018 Games will be clean due to the incomplete investigation of massive evidence of individual doping by Russian athletes at the..."

"In a few days we will have the results of the first batch of 50 bottles (determining whether or not they had been tampered with) and then we can proceed".

Canadian sports lawyer Richard McLaren in 2016 was appointed to lead a special panel of inquiry of the World Anti-Doping Agency commissioned to probe into charges by the former chief of the Moscow anti-doping laboratory, Grigory Rodchenkov, who alleged that Russian athletes' doping tests at the 2014 Olympics were faked.

Russian track and field athletes were barred from last year's Rio Olympics and from the World Championships in Athletics in London last month.

But the International Olympic Committee chose not to impose a blanket ban, instead leaving decisions on whether Russians could compete to individual sporting federations. It says there should be a path for Russian athletes to compete as neutrals if they can prove they're subject to strong anti-doping procedures.
