Arsenal defender Kolasinac has cheeky dig at Koln with Schalke shirt”

Kick-off was delayed by an hour as ticketless away supporters attempted to enter the ground, with plenty of Cologne fans sat in among the home section when the tie finally got under way, with the Gunners eventually winning 3-1.

According to BBC Sport, Arsenal have been charged because of blocked stairways, while the Bundesliga outfit face four, "including crowd disturbances and setting off fireworks", after 17,000 extra fans travelled to the game on top of their seat allocation of nearly 3,000.

UEFA said it would deal with the cases on September 21.

After the game, Cologne coach Peter Stoger refused to take questions on the crowd disturbances - but Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger admitted he thought the contest would be postponed. "They should certainly make an inquiry to find out what happened, for sure".

The spokesman said the five people were arrested on suspicion of public order offences.

London bore witness to masses of German fans arriving into the English capital ahead of the match, causing huge disturbances around the Emirates stadium as thousands of fans attempted to gain entry to the match without tickets.

"Officers are dealing with disorder at the Emirates Stadium where fans have gathered for the Arsenal vs FC Koln match", police said (via the Independent).

"I don't know how they were able to infiltrate our fans but they did it very well", said Wenger.

Many bought tickets for areas of the stadium occupied by Arsenal supporters, causing segregation issues, although there were only isolated incidents of trouble once the game started.

As for the repercussions that may arise from the ugly scenes before kick-off, the Daily Express reports that Uefa will "demand a full report into the problems" to pinpoint who was to blame for the chaos. "But it took us 45 minutes and I think we are quite happy with the way it ended, but it took us a long time to get going here really".

" Disciplinary proceedings have been opened following the UEFA Europa League group stage match between Arsenal FC and 1".

Earlier, YouTube footage showed thousands of Cologne fans surging through the streets of London, chanting in unison and setting off flares.
