Brexit will hurt value of British citizenship”

According to a new global citizenship reports, Malaysian nationality is of "High Quality".

South Africa's "quality of nationality" scored 33%‚ putting it in the lower half of the 150 states in the index and giving it a "medium quality" rating.

The findings were released in London on Wednesday by worldwide residence and citizenship planning firm‚ Henley & Partners.

The US, meanwhile, ranked only 29th on the QNI with a score of 68.8% because of its relatively low "settlement freedom" compared to nationalities of the European Union member states, and its weak showing on the peace and stability element of the index.

But being able to travel freely through all countries on the planet is a luxury afforded to few.

Results of the second Henley & Partners - Kochenov Quality of Nationality Index (QNI) have been released, with the United Kingdom falling outside the top 10 countries in the "extremely high quality" category.

Results of the second Henley & Partners - Kochenov Quality of Nationality Index (QNI) have shown that the global standing of United Kingdom citizenship would suffer significantly if free movement was scrapped, robbing Brits of the right to work and settle in countries across the European Union.

The study was conducted by law professor Dimitry Kochenov, who said the UK's ranking is likely to fall after Brexit is finalised.

"Everyone has a nationality of one or more states".

The ranking is based on the premise that while nations themselves are impossible to compare, quality of nationality can be quantified based on internal factors such as economic growth and scale, human development and overall peace and stability. Importantly, there is no direct correlation between the power of the state and the quality of its nationality.

"In the majority of circumstances‚ our nationality plays an important role in establishing a highly irrational ceiling for our opportunities and aspirations".

- Timor-Leste is the biggest riser in Asia with a 7.3% value increase.

The QNI ranks the value of every nationality of the world in terms of how open it is for business and its quality of life It's a gauge of the opportunities and limitations that nationalities impose on people.

The UK now ranks 11th out of the 28 countries in the "extremely high quality quality" category, requiring a score of 75 per cent or above.

"Before the launch of the QNI, no single, credible source existed that ranked the nationalities of the world. The methodology has also been updated to include territories such as Dutch and French overseas territories, USA territories, Greenland, and the Faroe Islands as settlement destinations", says Kochenov.

This second edition of the QNI also interrogates the quality of a post "hard Brexit" British nationality, comparing it to its current status. As to which country ended at the bottom of the table, the answer is Afghanistan, sitting at the 159th spot with a score of 14.6 percent.
