British teen dies after eating own hair”

Miss Marshall continued: "Jasmine collapsed at college, she went home to bed and then later she came out in blotches and the rest is sad news".

Unfortunately, the girl passed away. Jasmine suffered from Rapunzel syndrome, which caused her to eat her hair.

Jasmine Beever, Skegness, Lincolnshire, was rushed to hospital after falling acutely ill September 7.

Jasmine was taken to hospital by ambulance and was initially resuscitated by the emergency response team, but died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Her family described Jasmine as being a "kind-hearted" person who always went out of her way to make her "friends and family feel better".

She was rushed to hospital, revived for 15 minutes, but later died.

"Jasmine was wonderful", Donna Marshall, the mother of the teen's best friend, told LicolnshireLive.

An auction is being held to support a grieving family following the shock death of a "bubbly, caring" Skegness teenager - only three weeks after the funeral of her grandfather.

"The heartbreak this family has endured in such a short time is understandably gut wrenching, so I have chose to raise funds for the family to try and unburden some of the financial strain at such a sad time", Billie Ashwell posted on the page. Beever's case was caused by the infected hairball in her stomach and eventually led to a burst ulcer that caused her organs to shut down. Till now, the campaign has raised 1,117 pounds ($1,516).

Patients who swallow their own hair are often diagnosed with Rapunzel syndrome, which is caused by a psychiatric disorder called trichophagia, according to the US National Library of Medicine National Institutes of Health.

Marshall's daughter, a longtime friend of the teen, has since set up a Just Giving page for donations to help the family cover medical expenses.

"We don't have a target we will just carry on". She said on Facebook that Jasmine had been "sucking and chewing her hair for years".

"We are extremely upset but we want to thank everybody for all they have done for the family", Beever's parents noted, according to LicolnshireLive.

The syndrome is rare, but not unheard of.

A 16-year-old British girl died from stomach infection brought about by a ball of hair that she had chewed and ingested over several years, a rare condition termed the "Rapunzel syndrome", usually triggered by emotional instability. According to the Conversation, citing the journal BMJ Case Reports, it was the 89th instance of Rapunzel syndrome that was recorded. The first case could have been discovered as early as 1700.
