Broncos sign NT Ahtyba Rubin

Broncos sign NT Ahtyba Rubin”

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reports defensive end Jared Crick is having surgery on his back and looking at a lengthy absence, per sources informed of the decision.

Crick's back injury escalated during the preseason, causing him to miss all but the first preseason game and the first week of the regular season. According to Rapoport he will undergo surgery and is likely headed for injured reserve.

He sat out three weeks, then tried returned to practice last week. He practiced again Wednesday but again he couldn't go Thursday.

Crick, 28, is getting a second medical opinion from Dr. Robert Watkins but it appears he has a disc issue that must be surgically repaired. After spending the first seven years of his career in Cleveland, Rubin signed with the Seahawks in 2015. It wasn't until 2010 that Rubin became a starter for the Browns, and that season, he finished with 82 total tackles, two sacks and one interception.

Crick played at Nebraska and was the Houston Texans' fourth-round draft pick in 2012. On Friday, the Broncos made a decision to place Crick on IR.

To accommodate the loss of Crick, free-agent defensive tackle Ahtyba Rubin has already signed with the Broncos, the franchise has formally announced.

Rubin, a sixth-round pick by the Browns in 2008, spent his first seven National Football League seasons in Cleveland and the last two in Seattle, where he started every game.
