Donnel Pumphrey Placed On IR With Torn Hamstring

Philadelphia Eagles rookie running back Donnel Pumphrey tore his hamstring in practice and has since been ruled out indefinitely, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN.

Pumphrey is part of an Eagles backfield that already includes LeGarrette Blount, Darren Sproles, Wendell Smallwood and Corey Clement.

Still, it's a noteworthy injury, as the Eagles were willing to use a roster spot on Pumphrey, knowing that he wouldn't play, hoping that he could take some time behind the scenes to adjust to the speed of the NFL. Coach Doug Pederson would not put a timetable on the injury, although it's the type of injury that could land Pumphrey on injured reserve.

The Eagles selected Pumphrey in the fourth round of the 2017 National Football League draft. But it's doubtful Pumphrey will get back on the active roster because he was a surprise survivor of the final cuts as a developmental player and wasn't likely to be activated for games anyway. Even more, he rushed into the end zone an incredible 62 times in his collegiate career along with another 5 receiving touchdowns.

During the preseason, Pumphrey logged 26 carries for 49 yards, and caught 13 passes for 72 yards.

Whether or not Pumphrey can make good on the fifth round pick will only be seen further down the road.
