MI teacher assaults student for not standing during pledge

MI teacher assaults student for not standing during pledge”

A teacher in eastern MI has been placed on administrative leave after she was accused of "violently snatching" a sixth-grade student from his chair as he stayed seated for the Pledge of Allegiance. The student felt his rights were violated when his teacher, who has yet to be named, tried to force him to stand for the pledge on September 7. "I was so confused. I didn't know what was going on", he said.

Except, I can tell you exactly what, because Stone claims that the very next day after the initial incident, another teacher yelled at him for remaining seated during the pledge. His parents were justifiably outraged and complained directly to the school board about the assault against their son.

The child said he doesn't pledge to a flag; his allegiance is to God and family.

"Farmington Public Schools offers every student the opportunity each day to participate in the Pledge of Allegiance", George Heitsch, the district's superintendent said in a statement, The Detroit News reported.

Hell, look what happened the following day: The alleged incident happened September 7. "At this time, the District can not speculate about the outcome of the pending investigation", the statement read.

The next day, on September 8, Stone's father said, a substitute teacher also "berated" the boy for staying seated during the pledge. The parents are now exploring options they have in regards to their son's Constitutional right of freedom of speech being violated.

Chaney, who is black, said the choice to quietly sit during the Pledge of Allegiance is one shared by the whole family but that Stone made the decision on his own.

Meanwhile, Stone hasn't returned to class and his family is contemplating pulling him out of the school district.

Stone's father, Brian Chaney, addressed the school district directly during their last board meeting. "I don't make him sit".

The Supreme Court has previously ruled that standing for the flag is a form of political speech and thus protected under the First Amendment, according to Cornell Law School.
