National Basketball Association expected to vote on draft lottery reform

National Basketball Association expected to vote on draft lottery reform”

But a proposal to punish teams for resting players might be the biggest change in the league's proposal.

The NBA rid the 2017-18 season schedule of back-to-back games around nationally televised appearances, giving teams less reason to sit out players for high-profile games. Instead, the home fans will have to run that risk instead, at least more frequently. Unless the league is physically examining each player through an independent medical expert, then who is to say players can not be labeled with some ridiculous and vague injury that requires a night of rest?

According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, the Competition Committee has recommended the NBA's proposal on Draft Lottery reform, sending it to the Board of Governors for a vote on September 28.

But no matter how much time we spend analyzing, lauding or criticizing the proposal, National Basketball Association coaches will determine whether this becomes a real issue when we see their strategic rest patterns in 2017-18.

The board of governors will also address another potential problem the league has had no answers for; tanking games. The second and third worst teams have 19.9 percent and 15.6 percent odds, respectively. Sep.

Under the recommended plan for the Draft, the odds of getting the No. 1 pick would be smoothed out for the League's worst teams. Having the worst record possible gives that franchise the best chance at landing the first overall pick in the following draft. Under the new plan, those teams would each have a 14 percent chance, according to league sources. The worst team could drop to fifth under the new plan, down from fourth.

By selecting Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons, Jahlil Okafor, Dario Saric and Markelle Fultz over the last four years, the Sixers are now in a position to compete again after bringing in top young talents via the draft.

The other somewhat monumental proposal is fixing the draft lottery to eliminate tanking, which is when bad teams, for lack of a better phrase, lose on objective.

Teams who anticipate undergoing rebuilds in the coming seasons may frown upon these proposed changes.

Ultimately, the objective of the changes to the NBA Draft lottery is to disincentivize tanking and lead to a more competitive league.
