Two women attacked by hammer-wielding man in France”

A man has attacked two women with a hammer in the French town of Chalon-sur-Saone, allegedly shouting "Allah Akbar".

The assailant in the France hammer attack was dressed all in black, and French media outlets report that police have not detained him yet.

The two assaults happened near Place de Beaune, 15 minutes apart.

In Chalon-sur-Saone two women were injured when they were attacked by a man with a hammer. The other woman is stable.

Officials asked locals not to share information on social media about the location of police while the manhunt for the attacker was still under way.

The incident took place in a public park in the centre of the town, which lies north of Lyon and close to the Swiss border.

"That's why a helicopter of the gendarmerie is now flying over our city", he said in a statement on Facebook. Onlookers said the man shouted "Allahu Akbar" during the incident.
