UPS adds three all-electric delivery trucks to its fleet

UPS adds three all-electric delivery trucks to its fleet”

Battery costs that are now $180-$200/kw-hour could drop to ~$100/kw-hour - "the main lever" to move electric commercial trucks to higher sales volumes, Llistosella says - and Daimler is limiting sales of the eCanter to ~500 vehicles for the first two years of production, in anticipation of the improved batteries. The first commercial partner is UPS, which will use three of the trucks in "locations to be determined".

Four New York City-based nonprofit organizations will also receive a small fleet of eCanter trucks: the Wildlife Conservation Society, New York Botanical Garden, Habitat for Humanity, and Big Reuse Brooklyn.

The Fuso eCanter is the world's first series-produced all-electric light-duty truck and will be delivered to customers starting this year in the US, Europe and Japan after first of the units are delivered to parcel carrier, UPS.

Daimler plans to make 500 eCanter trucks over the next two years, with larger scale production beginning in 2019.

Currently, the eCanter only gets about 62 miles on a full charge, though the smaller vehicle and its 10,000-lb load limit is really meant for deliveries within cities, not long hauls between them.

Mitsubishi Fuso-which is part of Daimler Trucks-will make the eCanter for the USA market in Portugal.
