80% of GSTN issues will be solved by October end: Sushil Modi”

Filing of returns on the last days of the month had caused technical glitches. "Owing to to huge rush of GSTR-3B return filing on the penultimate date of the month, the GSTN software witnessed glitches", he said. "In our meeting with GSTN and Infosys we have decided that 70-80% of the problems will be addressed by the end of October", Modi said. Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, who is heading the newly-formed Group of Ministers to look into the glitches of the GST Network, on Saturday said that dealers' tendency to rush to file the returns only at the last minute causes the system to crash, even as the panel has chose to remedy the system glitches.

The GoM met for the first time today in Bengaluru and took stock of the issues being faced by the businesses in filing the returns, and the GST Network's preparedness to handle 300 crore invoices. He was speaking to reporters after the first meeting of the Group of Ministers that was formed to tackle IT-related glitches. Also, a further 11 lakh dealers have registered under the composition scheme of GST.

"We have kept long deadlines for GST filing". So bit of problems is expected. He was the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar when the Value Added Tax was implemented in 2005. "I know traders were as sceptical then, as they are for GST", he said. "We can't say that they have failed".

The GoM held its first meeting here on Saturday and discussed at length technical issues faced by GSTN with top executives of the IT major Infosys that has developed and built the IT system for new tax regime.

Kerala FM Thomas Isaac, Amar Agarwal, Minister for Commercial Taxes, Chhattisgarh and Krishna Byregowda, Minister for Agriculture, Karnataka are the other members.

Revenue Secretary Hasmukh Adhia today ruled out any further extension in filing of returns under GST after December. From Infosys, its Interim CEO and MD UB Pravin Rao and Independent Director DN Prahlad, along with some vertical heads attended the meeting that lasted for three hours.
